Ghost Stories

So I am in the middle of this giant folklore project that I am doing about ghost stories. I have collected a ton of spooky tales and have conducted interviews with my informants about their stories/experiences. Tomorrow I have to give a "work in progress" presentation to the class. Here's what I created for it:

These are sounds clips from the interviews that I did, arranged in a little audio collage. I made it into a video just so the class will be able to read and understand what they are saying. But thanks to everyone who has helped me with this project. Well, except now I have heard so many ghost stories that I am terrified every time I am alone!! Welp.

Farewell Sister Patterson!

I felt privileged to see my best friend Kari just minutes before she took off to the MTC. She is going to be serving for 18 months in Mission Viejo, California and speaking Spanish! I am going to miss her a ton, but I know she is going to be a wonderful sister missionary.

Bye Kari!

A Diamond in the Rough

It's a good thing I never got around to deleting my high school Myspace profile that's been idly floating out in the world wide web for the past few years. If I had, surely I would have lost this invaluable piece of personal history. . .

I can't believe this still exists. I made this when I was about seventeen, and obviously had way too much time on my hands. Was I really this weird?? The video speaks for itself.

Trick-or-Treat!

I was so glad to be home on Halloween so I could see my nieces and nephews all dressed up for trick-o-treating. I really miss the little kid part of Halloween!

Here's Noah pouting in his Spongebob costume. He did not like wearing it. The older kids would grab the big nose and drag him around! "Come on, Noah!" The tootsie pop somewhat pacified him though.

"VICTORRRR!!!"
Ethan knows how to pose for Wolverine.

Ryal as Bumblebee from Transformers

Gracie was the cutest witch I've ever seen.

Trick or Treat!

 Noah loves candy.

Ow! Ow!

I'd like to think that everyone does this when they are alone. . .

Who Took the Cookies from the Cookie Jar?

One of my favorite parts about going home is visiting my sister and all of her adorable children. This time I was surprised by much Noah was talking and SINGING. Listening to him sing his primary songs and "who took the cookies from the cookie jar?" just tickled me.  He's so precious.

That last "couldn't be!" is so funny!

a sun. . .  BEAM!!!

Gracie wanted to sing for me too. This is a song she learned at preschool.

And then Kaylee started singing for me! Oh man. Every time this girl sings I am inspired. Who knew such a big sound could come out of a little girl?? She's got some major pipes.

There is nothing I love more than being entertained my Jheri's kids. I am so happy that there are THREE new little ones on the way in my family! Jheri, Tricia, and Tressa are expecting. Hooray for nieces and nephews!

SHAQ Clerihew

Recently, I attended a poetry reading and was introduced to form of poetry called the clerihew. It is a four line poem consisting of a name, a rhyme for the name, and a couplet- that's it. Fun and simple. After the reading, I was determined to try my hand at writing a clerihew. As I walked home, I tried to think of a proper subject- Abraham Lincoln and Ghengis Khan had already been taken. I thought Shaq was the next obvious choice. Since then, I have strained to think of a poem fitting for the NBA demigod, though I fear no clerihew I write could be epic enough for him. This is what I came up with. . .

Shaquille O' My! Can he act! Neil

Shaquille O'Neil
Don't get real
The genie role was your best lead
A boombox wish is what kids need.

I also wrote a clerihew for my roomate, Alison. It's hard to rhyme with Rasmussen, just so you know.

Alison Rasmussen
I think it musta been
Hard how you dropped your cloak and ran
From the scene in your room with the cardboard man.

Not Alison. Cardboard man? Yes.

I dare everyone to write a clerihew. Tell me if you come up with anything good.

This Is It.

I saw This Is It last night.
The movie was great.
I wore this shirt. . .

I found this in Chinatown while I was in Sinagpore, and couldn't live without it.
Michael, I'll never forget you.

Busk'n Cuffs @ Marquee Theatre

So Sky's band played a big show at the Marquee Theatre in Tempe last friday, and boy, those kids killed it! It was so cool to see my little brother up on a big stage rockin' the Marquee. The lights. The incredible sound system. The big crowd (there were probably several hundred people there). It was all TREMENDOUS. And of course, they rose to the occasion and blew everyone's minds, as usual. People were shouting for an encore at the end, but they had already gone over their time slot. It was so cool to look around and see older tough-guys with beards, moms, high school kids, and drunk people in togas all rockin' their heads to the music and enjoying the set. For kids that aren't even old enough to buy spray paint or dry ice, they can rock pretty hard.

The Marquee.

look at TJ. haha.

This is probably their one and only "slow song." I got the chillz at the end.

They played some songs that I had never heard before.
"Domesticats" was one of them.
It reminds me of those old Chips Ahoy! commercials with the chocolate chip cookies dancing and jumping into that giant bowl of milk. yep.

final bow.

Well, the show was awesome. I'm one proud big sister!
