Can you Feel It?

It's been a slow-moving process, but Sky's band (Buskin Cuffs) finally came out with their first set of recordings, and they were definitely worth the wait. They sound AMAZING. I'm so proud of these boys and how far they've come in just one year. A year ago they were playing their very first show at Mesa High's Battle of the Bands. Just over a year ago, Skyler was too shy to sing. Now listen to him!! It really blows my mind. I can't wait to see where they'll be a year from now.

Go check out their new songs on their myspace. I like them all, but my favorite is "Feel It." I love the organ sounds and the country/gospel feel to the chorus. Go give it a listen. You won't regret it.

Bloom Cheek

My favorite local band from Phoenix, What Laura Says, just released some promo videos for their upcoming release of Bloom Cheek. I cannot tell you how long I've been waiting for this album. After being pushed back again and again, its official release has finally been pinned down to June 8th. From the looks/sound of these videos, I think it will be well worth the wait.

I think this album is gonna make a splash.

Fun with Photoshop

My mom called me the other and asked me to design a poster for my little brother's band, Buskin Cuffs. They made it to the finals in the SRP Garageband Competition, and needed some promo material for their website. Here's what I came up with. . .

It's not perfect, but I'm pretty happy with the way it came out. I think it will suit the boys nicely. Though I'm pretty amateurish  at Photoshop,  I love playing on it and learning new tricks.  It makes me feel the way I did when I was five with a new coloring book and a box of Crayola 64. The possibilities are just endless.

St. Patrick's

In honor of St. Patrick's Day,

2 songs by Irish artists

I Don't Know Lisa Hannigan
Be Good or Be Gone Fionn Regan

and a green avocado milkshake. . .

Avocados and ice cream?? I know.
Maybe it's not for everyone. But I sure like it.
Recipe found here.

The Sunset Limited

A very different McCarthy experience, but still very rewarding. This play is basically a 143 pg, one act discussion of "to be, or not to be?" Intellectual atheist (suicide attemptee) vs. born again ex-convict (saves man from attempted suicide). McCarthy doesn't tell us who to side with, nor is his authorial voice apparent in the debate. He simply forces us to pay attention. I think this is a very worthwhile read. If you haven't had the time to pick up "The Road," this novel in dramatic form basically represents the major ideas of the book in a condensed form. And it's definitely one of those books you can sit and breeze through in one afternoon.

I stamp this again and again with my upmost approval. I think everyone should read it.

Que Sera Sera

Que Sera Sera Sly & the Family Stone

I know it's only wishful thinking to be staring at this year's lineup for Coachella, wondering what it would be like to see acts like She & Him, Yeasayer, Beach House, Edward Sharpe, The xx, LCD Soundsystem, Jónsi, Phoenix, Old Crow Medicine Show, Thom Yorke, and the list goes on and on. The whole gang's gonna be there. Music + palm trees + the cool California breeze through my hair. I can't imagine anything better.

Too bad I have priorities and Coachella is always the week of finals for BYU. I only console myself with the fact that there will be other shows and other festivals, and someday when I am not taking tedious essay exams on the masterpieces of American literature-- I will get the chance to see some of these bands.

But then I saw THIS. . .
SLY STONE on the lineup?
Seriously?!?

Man, Coachella.
Now you're just teasing me.

What will be, will be
Sly Stone without Me.

I'm not part of your "system"

Turns out, this stuff isn't even good for you.
I feel really lied to.

Basically, its a lot like a soft drink. . . but tastes worse.

To Vitamin Water.
Glaceau.
Coca-cola.
Carrie Underwood.
and
50 Cent.

I'm not part of your "system."

Fanfarlo

I'm A Pilot Fanfarlo

On Saturday night, we took an excursion to Salt Lake to see a little band from London called Fanfarlo.

The only proper word for this experience is MAGICAL.
