Best Compliment

Recently, I was asked to sing a musical number at my cousin's baptism in California. When it was over, I felt good about the song and performance overall-- I kept my cool, didn't get too nervous, hit all my high notes, and didn't trip on the way up to the podium. Still, I got some mixed comments on my voice that continue to perplex me.

After the program, a woman that I didn't know came up to me and complimented me on the song. She added, "while you were singing my daughter leaned over to me and said that you sounded like the girl from Tangled!"

I actually, haven't seen Tangled yet, but hey, if someone says that I sing like a Disney Princess, I can't complain.

But then, a few minutes later, my Uncle Mike approached me. Now, here is a man with dangerous compliments-- he can never say something completely nice and I always know that he is telling the truth. His first "compliment" was, "You know, you sing better than you drive." Ouch! back-handed compliment! But, nonetheless, kinda funny. But then he said something that will probably stick in my mind forever: "You know what I heard when you were up there?? Michael Jackson, when he was a kid. You know, kinda like some of his slower songs? Seriously."

I already felt good about how the song went, but now my whole perception of the performance completely shifted. Did the congregation hear your typical, sweet lil' J-Kapp song, or did they hear this. . .

I have a really hard time believing that I sounded like Michael Jackson while singing a Janice Kapp Perry song about baptism, but anyone who understands my obsession with the Jackson 5 can imagine my pleasure at this comment. I am still trying to reconcile the different reactions of the woman and my uncle, but I have come to one conlcusion...  If you ever want to make me feel REALLY GOOD about my singing, just tell me that I sound like Michael Jackson.

Whether it is true or false, I will treasure the compliment forever.

self-realization

jacob took this picture of me on skype (without me knowing) and then sent it to me.

He then informed me that I make this face all the time.

i know this face, and i DO make it all the time. however, i had no idea that it looked quite like THIS! at least, now i know (for sure) that my fiancĂ© loves me for my personality above all else-- at least.

jacob visits my home

the wild hunt the tallest man on earth

Jacob's week in Arizona was one of the best weeks of my life. I never wanted it to end. We relaxed, spent time with family, visited some of my favorite places around town, and enjoyed the desert beauty and the warm summer nights. I loved every moment.
On the roadtrip to AZ, we decided to take a break from driving, stretch our legs, and explore the Moqui Caves. Such a weird place! This is us outside of the cave in possibly my worst outfit ever invented. Sweat pants with cowboy boots??? Sure. why not.

Just so everyone knows, there is no such thing as a "perfect" roadtrip. Something always has to go wrong. This time it was Jacob's car. Right as we get on the off-ramp of the freeway in Mesa (probably less than a mile away from my house) Jacob's car completely stops and will not turn on again. Luckily, some guy stoppped to help us move it to the side of the road so we didn't get hit as people were exiting the freeway. I had to get out and push the big Exterra in my bare feet! We found out later that his timing belt had broken, which was a pricey fix-- but it could've been a lot worse. And we are sure lucky that it broke down right by my house, instead of in the middle of nowhere on some interstate highway. My brother-in-law was able to come quickly to our rescue and tow us home. Though I would never ask for jacob's car to break down (huge inconvenience!), I do have to say that it made the trip even more of an adventure.

I took Jacob to the place where we are getting married! Yup, this is where all the magic is gonna happen. The Mesa Temple is so beautiful.

We went and saw Black Carl (one of my favorite local bands) peform an accoustic set at a fundraiser for a local elementary school. They were selling all of these records that kids had painted to raise money for the school.

I really wanted to buy this one, but it was already sold!! See the little sticker in the corner? This picture just makes me really happy though.

Me and Jacob went on another mini roadtrip to Sedona, one of my favorite places ever.
I have been wanting to take Jacob here for so long.

a pic from Jacob's Canon Rebel

We hiked Bell Rock.

He's a romantic.

Then we went exploring and found a beautiful creek.

We even jumped in.

This place was awesome. It was so beautiful and peaceful. There was even some hippie guy sitting on a rock playing a little recorder-flute instrument. It was pretty funny, but I have to admit that it really added to the scenery and the feeling of the place.

Then we headed over to Cathedral Rock, my favorite hike.

Beautiful sights up here.

Everything about this day was lovely. The weather, the scenery, the laughs, the exploring, but most of all, we felt more in love than ever.

Jacob left for Colorado the next morning, which was kinda sad.
But at least we got to have another big adventure before our he had to go.

i love you i miss you

This is just a dumb little video that I found on Jacob's computer awhile ago. There's nothing really special about it. It's short, you can't hear what we're saying, the music in the background is pretty obnoxious, and we're just being dorks. But look how happy we are! This was the day that marked us being together for six months. Later that day, Jacob would surprise me with a red rose and a tender love note.

Can't believe he's gonna be mine forever.

Wishes

Yesterday, Noah was picking little dandelions in the backyard, and he told me they were wishes. . .

"What do you wish for Noah?"

"I wish, I wish, I wish. . . for  a Mater Monster Truck! Cuz I don't have one."

Then he blew all the little fuzzies away in the wind, and gave me a dandelion. My turn.

"Hmmmm. . . I wish for  a beautiful wedding dress."

I was about to blow my wish away, but Noah stopped me:

"No, No. . .You say, 'I wish, I wish, I wish. . . that Jacob comed back.'"

I almost died.

"Okay Noah. That's a really good wish. I wish, I wish, I wish that Jacob comed back!" He finally let me blow my fuzzy wishes away, and I couldn't help but laugh. My nephew is so precious.

Jacob just left for Denver after spending a week with my fam here in AZ. He'll be working there doing some sales/roofing/insurance job for about seven weeks. He's only been gone for a few days, but I already miss my best friend.

What am I supposed to do for SEVEN WEEKS?!?!?

Oh, yeah. . . plan a wedding. I'm still trying to figure that one out.

Making plans and the thought of Jacob making some money for a lovely little honeymoon are the things keeping me steady right now. After spending no more than a week apart from eachother for the last 8 months, we get to experience what long distance feels like. And so far it's just. . .weird. Does absence make the heart grow fonder? Only our 7-week Skype romance will tell. But the thought of my fiancĂ© back in my arms. . . Well, that's another thing keeping me steady.

For now, I've got Noah to keep me company.
