honeymoon on the mind

the sandwitches - back to the sea by gfom

So nothing is confirmed yet, but it looks like me and my guy will (most likely) be taking an exotic, beachside honeymoon in a tropical location. Jacob wanted to keep it a secret from me until the wedding, but I couldn't take it, so I made him tell me what he was planning. I was pleasantly surprised. And oh boy, the more I think about it, the more excited I get.

And now that I have been looking around and seeing just how many cute, modest, one-piece swimsuits there are right now, oh man, I can hardly contain my excitement. Now, I'm all for modest swimwear, but I am a little tired of the tankini + board shorts look. I love love love this new swimdress fad that's coming into fashion. So pretty and feminine. I am determined to be sporting one of these on a tropical beach for my honeymoon!

I am drooling over all of these. Ugh! I seriously can't get this honeymoon off my mind! Will August ever get here? I don't know if I can wait any longer!

p.s.
once we we get the details and travel arrangements confirmed, maybe I'll let everyone in on where it is we are going. stay tuned :)

wannabe buff

Showing Jacob the unbelievable results of the P90X Extreme Home Fitness workout via Skype.

Day 7

Okay, that's obviously not what my bicep really looks like, but has anyone else tried this?
I have been doing it for about a week and a half now, and I must confess that I think I am seeing some results. The workouts are HARD and the instructor is a goober, but they are actually kind of fun and exciting.  There's a lot of variety too-- yoga, plyometrics, weight lifting, and I especailly love the karate choppin' cardio of KenpoX.

I haven't dropped 15 pounds miraculously, but my abs are tighter, some of those muscles that have been ignored for so long are actually getting a workout, I'm more flexible (there's an entire 1-hour workout DVD just for stretching), I have more energy, and overall, I feel really good. I've been borrowing the DVDs from a friend, but I am tempted to buy my own set because I love it so much. Has P90X worked for anyone else out there? What do you think?

Apparently, you are supposed to do the workouts and fitness plan for 90 days to get the full results. Maybe if I actually do the whole program, I'll post some "before" and "after" pics-- NOT.

BYU Romance

My two greatest accomplishments at BYU.

It's hard to remember now, but I think there was a time when I thought I was too "cool" for a BYU romance...

Let me explain.

+ being introduced by his brother (now my future brother-in-law) AKA my best friend's boyfriend (now husband), and feeling my entire universe shift
+ a pre-mission first date that started at the Nickelcade and left me restless for the next 2 1/2 years
+ "casually" writing a missionary, all the while trying to hide my secret wishful heart
+ sending him postcards from London, Stonehenge, and Oxford while studying abroad
+ meeting for the first time after his mission at his ward's semester kickoff FHE for pizza and rootbeer--I don't think he met anyone in his ward the entire time we were there
+ spending the rest of the night looking at his mission pictures from Johannesburg, South Africa
+ a post-mission first date that began dancing at a Vampire Weekend concert and ended lying down on a sidewalk at Temple Square, staring straight up at the glowing Salt Lake Temple. . . and then a Temple Square security guard asking us to not lay on the sidewalk because people might trip on us
+ a perfect first kiss that happened because he decided to ditch his friends, not go to the BYU football game, and spend the whole day with me instead
+ coyly agreeing to date an eager returned missionary
+ falling in love so fast, i thought i was dreaming
+ Hiking the Y Mountain-- and I'm not just talking about the "Y," I'm talking about the WHOLE MOUNTAIN.
+ a weekend getaway to Rexburg, Idaho for Yellowstone and "Bear World"
+ eating lunch together almost every day in the Cougareat
+ my first BYU football game with him
+ a Beto's run at about 12:30 a.m. monday morning for breakfast burritos (borderline breaking the sabbath. we only did it once, i think)
+ sneaking into the exit of the BYU testing center to leave him encouraging notes and Jones Soda to find on his way out
+ movie nights at international cinema in the SWKT
+ the first "i love you" after October Conference together
+ study nights in the library, though i would never let him sit next to me at the table while i was studying--only across from me. it was too hard for me to focus with him at my side, though we still played footsie and looked up from our books for an occaisonal flirtish glance
+ giving a good luck kiss before the hard math/engineering/physics test, and a shoulder rub after
+ date nights at BYU tennis matches, the Eyring Planetarium, and BYU Symphony
+ trips to SLC to hear Music and the Spoken Word live
+ watching almost every single BYU devotional together this year
+ attending almost every CES fireside, and watching the one that we missed on my laptop together
+ seeing the same person waiting outside my house at the crack of dawn to pick me up for school every morning
+ holding hands on our walk through campus's new garden path
+ picnicking by the duck pond
+ seeing a tiny dot at the top of the stadium waving his arms at me before the commencement ceremony and waving back in a mass of blue caps and gowns
+ walking to my seat at graduation and  seeing him right in the front row waving, taking pictures, blowing kisses, being my biggest fan.
+ graduating with a degree under my belt and an engagement ring on my finger, a diploma under my arm and the love of my life in my arms

There was a time I probably would have regarded such events as "cheesy" or a "typical BYU love story," but life schooled me and I gladly relented to the happiness there was in store. Though I am now graduated, Jacob still has at least two more years to finish his ME degree, and I have a feeling that our BYU romance has not ended yet.

Here's to a few more years in Provo and all the sweet memories to come.

I can't wait to make them with you.

natural woman

I heard my little brother singin' this song around the house today, and I almost died. . .

The thing is, every time he got to the word "woman" he would just fade out and not finish the phrase. I was cracking up, "Dude, are you seriously singing that?" I think most people would be worried if they heard their little brother singing "Natural Woman."

He responded jokingly,

"If only this song applied to me, it would be the perfect song."

Luckily, I know this kid just loves that ol' soulful kind of music and is not singing his actual feelings here. Still can't stop laughing about it though. All through the house. . .

"YOU MAKE ME FEEL!!!! YOU MAKE ME FEEL!! YOU MAKE ME FEEL LIKE A NATURAL . . ."

You have to admit that it is a pretty great chorus.

Best Compliment

Recently, I was asked to sing a musical number at my cousin's baptism in California. When it was over, I felt good about the song and performance overall-- I kept my cool, didn't get too nervous, hit all my high notes, and didn't trip on the way up to the podium. Still, I got some mixed comments on my voice that continue to perplex me.

After the program, a woman that I didn't know came up to me and complimented me on the song. She added, "while you were singing my daughter leaned over to me and said that you sounded like the girl from Tangled!"

I actually, haven't seen Tangled yet, but hey, if someone says that I sing like a Disney Princess, I can't complain.

But then, a few minutes later, my Uncle Mike approached me. Now, here is a man with dangerous compliments-- he can never say something completely nice and I always know that he is telling the truth. His first "compliment" was, "You know, you sing better than you drive." Ouch! back-handed compliment! But, nonetheless, kinda funny. But then he said something that will probably stick in my mind forever: "You know what I heard when you were up there?? Michael Jackson, when he was a kid. You know, kinda like some of his slower songs? Seriously."

I already felt good about how the song went, but now my whole perception of the performance completely shifted. Did the congregation hear your typical, sweet lil' J-Kapp song, or did they hear this. . .

I have a really hard time believing that I sounded like Michael Jackson while singing a Janice Kapp Perry song about baptism, but anyone who understands my obsession with the Jackson 5 can imagine my pleasure at this comment. I am still trying to reconcile the different reactions of the woman and my uncle, but I have come to one conlcusion...  If you ever want to make me feel REALLY GOOD about my singing, just tell me that I sound like Michael Jackson.

Whether it is true or false, I will treasure the compliment forever.

self-realization

jacob took this picture of me on skype (without me knowing) and then sent it to me.

He then informed me that I make this face all the time.

i know this face, and i DO make it all the time. however, i had no idea that it looked quite like THIS! at least, now i know (for sure) that my fiancĂ© loves me for my personality above all else-- at least.

jacob visits my home

the wild hunt the tallest man on earth

Jacob's week in Arizona was one of the best weeks of my life. I never wanted it to end. We relaxed, spent time with family, visited some of my favorite places around town, and enjoyed the desert beauty and the warm summer nights. I loved every moment.
On the roadtrip to AZ, we decided to take a break from driving, stretch our legs, and explore the Moqui Caves. Such a weird place! This is us outside of the cave in possibly my worst outfit ever invented. Sweat pants with cowboy boots??? Sure. why not.

Just so everyone knows, there is no such thing as a "perfect" roadtrip. Something always has to go wrong. This time it was Jacob's car. Right as we get on the off-ramp of the freeway in Mesa (probably less than a mile away from my house) Jacob's car completely stops and will not turn on again. Luckily, some guy stoppped to help us move it to the side of the road so we didn't get hit as people were exiting the freeway. I had to get out and push the big Exterra in my bare feet! We found out later that his timing belt had broken, which was a pricey fix-- but it could've been a lot worse. And we are sure lucky that it broke down right by my house, instead of in the middle of nowhere on some interstate highway. My brother-in-law was able to come quickly to our rescue and tow us home. Though I would never ask for jacob's car to break down (huge inconvenience!), I do have to say that it made the trip even more of an adventure.

I took Jacob to the place where we are getting married! Yup, this is where all the magic is gonna happen. The Mesa Temple is so beautiful.

We went and saw Black Carl (one of my favorite local bands) peform an accoustic set at a fundraiser for a local elementary school. They were selling all of these records that kids had painted to raise money for the school.

I really wanted to buy this one, but it was already sold!! See the little sticker in the corner? This picture just makes me really happy though.

Me and Jacob went on another mini roadtrip to Sedona, one of my favorite places ever.
I have been wanting to take Jacob here for so long.

a pic from Jacob's Canon Rebel

We hiked Bell Rock.

He's a romantic.

Then we went exploring and found a beautiful creek.

We even jumped in.

This place was awesome. It was so beautiful and peaceful. There was even some hippie guy sitting on a rock playing a little recorder-flute instrument. It was pretty funny, but I have to admit that it really added to the scenery and the feeling of the place.

Then we headed over to Cathedral Rock, my favorite hike.

another shot from J's Canon Rebel

Beautiful sights up here.

Everything about this day was lovely. The weather, the scenery, the laughs, the exploring, but most of all, we felt more in love than ever.

Jacob left for Colorado the next morning, which was kinda sad.
But at least we got to have another big adventure before our he had to go.

i love you i miss you

This is just a dumb little video that I found on Jacob's computer awhile ago. There's nothing really special about it. It's short, you can't hear what we're saying, the music in the background is pretty obnoxious, and we're just being dorks. But look how happy we are! This was the day that marked us being together for six months. Later that day, Jacob would surprise me with a red rose and a tender love note.

Can't believe he's gonna be mine forever.

Wishes

Yesterday, Noah was picking little dandelions in the backyard, and he told me they were wishes. . .

"What do you wish for Noah?"

"I wish, I wish, I wish. . . for  a Mater Monster Truck! Cuz I don't have one."

Then he blew all the little fuzzies away in the wind, and gave me a dandelion. My turn.

"Hmmmm. . . I wish for  a beautiful wedding dress."

I was about to blow my wish away, but Noah stopped me:

"No, No. . .You say, 'I wish, I wish, I wish. . . that Jacob comed back.'"

I almost died.

"Okay Noah. That's a really good wish. I wish, I wish, I wish that Jacob comed back!" He finally let me blow my fuzzy wishes away, and I couldn't help but laugh. My nephew is so precious.

Jacob just left for Denver after spending a week with my fam here in AZ. He'll be working there doing some sales/roofing/insurance job for about seven weeks. He's only been gone for a few days, but I already miss my best friend.

What am I supposed to do for SEVEN WEEKS?!?!?

Oh, yeah. . . plan a wedding. I'm still trying to figure that one out.

Making plans and the thought of Jacob making some money for a lovely little honeymoon are the things keeping me steady right now. After spending no more than a week apart from eachother for the last 8 months, we get to experience what long distance feels like. And so far it's just. . .weird. Does absence make the heart grow fonder? Only our 7-week Skype romance will tell. But the thought of my fiancĂ© back in my arms. . . Well, that's another thing keeping me steady.

For now, I've got Noah to keep me company.
